Fieldwork Investigation: Urban Regeneration Study

Students conducted an environmental quality survey comparing a regenerated waterfront district with an unregenerated canal path.

Characteristics of the two areas

• Unregenerated canal path: Abandoned warehouses, overgrown towpaths, disused locks, scrap metal yard, fly-tipping sites, brick walls with graffiti.
• Regenerated waterfront: Pedestrianised plazas, cafes and restaurants, modern apartments, sailing marina, public art installations, tourist information centre.

Environmental quality survey

Scores range from 0 (Very poor quality) to 5 (Excellent quality).
