Watching the removal van

Text 1: Number Fourteen, by Philippa Drummond

An original novel extract.

The removal van arrived on Thursday afternoon and parked half on the pavement outside number fourteen, which had been empty since Easter. Within minutes every child on Larch Close had found a reason to be outside. The Mistry twins began washing their bikes, which they had never done before. Callum sat on his garden wall pretending to read a comic, though he held it upside down. I knelt at my bedroom window with the net curtain pulled across my face, so I could see out without being seen. Two men carried in a piano, then a stuffed owl in a glass case, then a long box that might have been a telescope or might have been a coffin. Each object was whispered from garden to garden. But the new neighbour herself stayed in the cab of the van, and we could see nothing of her except one hand, wearing a silver ring, drumming on the dashboard.

Give three words or phrases that show the children are curious about the new neighbour.
