The jammed locker

Text 1: Be Brave, by Sophie Tremayne

An original novel extract.

On the last day of term, Mr Hughes made everyone clear out their lockers before the leavers’ assembly. Freya’s locker was at the bottom of the row, and the door had been stuck since February. She knelt on the corridor floor, gripped the handle and pulled. Nothing happened. Ollie gave the door a kick, and it sprang open so suddenly that she fell backwards, and an avalanche poured out over her knees: a PE bag, three odd socks, a recorder she had not played since Year Seven, a mouldy satsuma like a small green moon, and a letter folded into a tiny square. She opened it. It was the note she had written to herself on her first day, which said, in enormous wobbly capitals, BE BRAVE. DON’T LOSE YOUR LOCKER KEY. She held up the key, which was still tied to her bag, and laughed until she cried.

Explain how Freya’s locker is finally opened.
