Theo’s first steps
Text 1: Tiny Boxer, by Carys Llewellin
An original short story extract.
Theo had been standing up for weeks, holding on to the coffee table and bouncing at the knees, but he had never let go. On Sunday evening, while we were watching a quiz show, he did. He took one wobbly step towards the sofa, then another, his arms held up like a tiny boxer. Mum screamed so loudly that the cat shot under the dresser. Dad leapt up, knocked over his tea, and did not even notice. ‘Film it!’ Gran shouted. ‘Somebody film it!’ I scrambled for my phone, so excited that I dropped it twice. Theo took a third step, sat down hard on his nappy, and looked round at us all in astonishment, as if we had gone mad. Then everyone was clapping and cheering at once, and Mum was crying and laughing together, and Theo, delighted with the noise, began to clap too.
Give three words or phrases that show the family is excited by Theo’s first steps.
