Question 18

A letter from the coast

An original account written in a nineteenth-century voice; a period simulation, not an archival document.

I promised to send my sister a letter from the coast, yet my first sheet never reached the post office. I had addressed it to the street where she once lived, forgetting her move in the spring. Before sealing it I discovered that the ink of the final page had soaked through the thin paper, leaving several lines unreadable. I copied the whole account onto stronger sheets and used the new address she had written on the back of her last envelope.

Explain two problems with the narrator’s first letter.
