The wheelwright says Monday

Text 1: A loose tyre, by George Allardyce

An original journal written in a nineteenth-century voice; a period simulation, not an archival document.

I took the gig to Josiah Brand, the wheelwright, after the iron tyre worked loose on the hill road. He walked round the wheel twice and then said he would not touch it until Monday. A new tyre must be heated in a ring of fire until it glows and then dropped over the wooden rim, he explained, and he would not light such a fire with this wind blowing straw across the yard. Besides, his son, who pours the cold water that shrinks the iron tight, had gone to the fair at Lyddon and would not be back until Sunday night. I hired a cart for the week, grumbling, though I should not have wished him to set the village alight to save me three days.

Explain two reasons why the wheelwright would not fit the new tyre straight away.
