Text 1: A fair on the school field, by Megan Price
An original contemporary blog.
Our year group took charge of the summer fair this year. In the weeks beforehand, we asked families to donate books and toys for the stalls, drew a plan of the field and made a rota so every stall had enough helpers. On the day, we carried tables outside, put up signs and checked that each helper knew when their turn began. By lunchtime the field was busy, and I spent the afternoon running the book stall with two friends. At the end, we packed the unsold books into boxes and folded the tables away.
Text 2: Quiz night at the village hall, by E. Morgan
An original contemporary newspaper report.
Residents held a quiz night at the village hall on Friday to raise money for its roof repairs. A small group had arranged the questions and contacted local shops to ask for prizes. Before guests arrived, volunteers set out chairs, prepared answer sheets and made tea in the kitchen. During the quiz, one team read the questions while another checked the answer sheets and kept the scores. Afterwards, the organisers counted the money raised, thanked the volunteers and returned the hall to its usual arrangement.
Drawing on both accounts, explain briefly what people had to do to organise these local events. You may consider preparation, jobs during the event and working with others.
