Text 1: The school book sale, by Erin Price
An original contemporary blog.
On Friday our school held a book sale to raise money for the library. Mrs Rees had made a list of jobs before we arrived: I put price labels on the tables, while two friends sorted the books into piles. She had also set out a timetable, so we knew when to move the books into the hall and when the doors would open.
Once the first families came in, it got busy. I had to keep finding the right pile while answering questions, and I barely had time to look at the books myself. But working with the others made the afternoon fun. We laughed about some of the old titles, and we were pleased when the sale raised £186 for the library.
Text 2: A morning clearing the footpath, by Martin Evans
An original contemporary community newsletter article.
On Saturday morning, twelve residents met to clear a footpath near the village hall. Jo, who had arranged the work, handed out gloves and divided us into small teams. She gave each team a different section, which meant we could cover more ground without crowding together.
The rain made the work slower, and the full bags were heavier than I expected. Even so, it was satisfying to see the path become clear as we worked. I had only spoken to a few of the other residents before, but by the end we had shared tea at the hall and arranged to meet again next month.
Using information from both texts, explain briefly how the activities were organised and what the people taking part experienced.
