Text 1: The long way to work, by Nia Pritchard
An original contemporary blog.
On Monday morning, heavy rain covered the path through the railway underpass near my flat. It was closed while the water was cleared, so everyone heading towards the station had to use the road bridge instead. My walk took twenty minutes longer than usual, and I arrived at the café where I work after the breakfast rush had started. The buses were delayed too: they were diverted away from the flooded road and several stops were missed. By lunchtime the path had reopened, but the morning's journeys had already been thrown out of order.
Text 2: Wind keeps village minibus off the ridge road, by Elin Price
An original contemporary newspaper report.
Strong gusts brought a tree down across the ridge road on Thursday, preventing the village minibus from reaching three stops. The driver turned back and passengers waiting at those stops had to make other arrangements. Several residents missed the weekly community lunch in the next village, while one passenger postponed a visit to the library. The road was cleared later that afternoon, and the minibus returned to its usual route the following morning.
