Question 85

The first pancake

Text: an original contemporary personal account-style practice extract.

I offered to make pancakes for breakfast. I mixed the flour, milk and eggs, then poured the first spoonful into the hot pan. It looked golden when I turned it, but my brother tasted it and immediately reached for the sugar. I had forgotten to add any to the mixture.

Once I had stirred in the missing ingredient, the next pancake disappeared from his plate in seconds.

Identify the ingredient the writer forgot to add to the mixture.
