Question 3

Keeping the ticket

Text: an original contemporary personal account-style practice extract.

At the concert, my phone screen stopped responding just as I reached the entrance. I had printed a copy of the ticket that morning and kept it in my coat pocket. The steward scanned that copy and let me through. Inside, I borrowed a friend’s phone to send a message home. The battery on my own phone was not empty; the screen was the problem. I enjoyed the performance, but afterwards I folded the printed ticket carefully rather than dropping it in the nearest bin.

From the extract, identify one thing that enabled the writer to enter the concert.
