Storm at the sorting depot
Text: an original contemporary report-style practice extract.
Strong winds tore a panel from the sorting depot’s outer roof and bent the sign beside its vehicle entrance. Staff redirected arriving vans to the rear gate while inspectors checked the damage. The covered loading bay remained usable, and the depot’s computer system continued working. A fallen branch outside the neighbouring shop did not belong to the depot site. By midday, workers had cleared loose metal from the entrance, but the damaged sign was kept for replacement rather than straightened beside the road.
From the extract, identify two kinds of damage the wind caused at the sorting depot.
