Question 130

The bookbinder’s work

An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.

The bookbinder removed the damaged cover and laid the loose pages in order. Two pages had folded corners, which he pressed flat beneath a clean board. He stitched the sections together before attaching a new cover of dark green cloth. When Anna returned, he showed her the repaired spine and advised her to keep the book away from the damp window ledge where it had previously been stored.

Give two repairs the bookbinder makes to the pages before attaching the new cover.
