Question 126

The borrowed coat

An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.

The coat was too large for Samuel, but its thick lining kept out the wind. Before leaving, he checked the pockets and found a handkerchief and a folded theatre programme. He placed both on the hall table so they would not be lost. His uncle told him to return before the lamps were lit. Samuel nodded, fastened the top button and set off with the sleeves turned back twice.

Give two objects Samuel finds in the coat pockets.
