A journey postponed
An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.
Frances had packed the trunk before breakfast. At nine, a boy brought word that the bridge had been damaged during the night. The coach could not reach the village until repairs were made. She unpacked the bread and cheese intended for the journey and shared them with her aunt. The rest of the trunk remained closed. She would wait for another message before deciding whether to put her travelling dress away.
Give two foods Frances has packed for the journey.
