Question 13

The forgotten workbasket

An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.

Ruth waited until the last lodger had gone downstairs before approaching the workbasket. It had been left open on the window seat, with a strip of green cloth hanging over one side. Beneath the cloth, she discovered a silver thimble and a reel of blue thread. She carried them to Mrs Bell, who was counting the breakfast plates in the kitchen, then returned to close the lid.

Give two objects Ruth discovers beneath the cloth.
