Question 113

The silver spoon

An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.

The spoon lay in the drawer beneath a bundle of receipts. Joseph had sold almost everything of value, but this small piece of silver remained. His wife had used it to stir medicine when their daughter was ill. Its worth could not be measured by the weight of the metal. When the dealer offered a price, Joseph shut the drawer and said that he had changed his mind.

Identify the sentence which suggests that the spoon has emotional value beyond its sale price.
