Question 106

A damaged map

An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.

The map had torn along its central fold. Arthur spread it on the inn table and weighed the corners with two spoons. The road to the estate disappeared into the tear. He asked the landlord for directions, copied them onto the back of his bill and placed the damaged map inside his bag. Before leaving, he bought a candle, knowing the final stretch of his journey would be made after dark.

Give two ways Arthur deals with the missing section of his route.
