The attic storm
An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.
Nora paused in the attic as rain rattled against the window. A flash of lightning lit the room, and thunder followed.
At the first crack, she crouched instinctively, one hand over her head. For an instant, the attic vanished: she was small again, hiding beneath the kitchen table while her brother counted the seconds. Then she stood, annoyed at the tremor in her hands.
In the second paragraph, identify one detail that shows Nora's reaction to the storm.
