The road through the orchard
An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.
Alice waited until the shower had passed before setting out across the orchard. Beneath one arm she carried the library book that Mr Bell had lent her aunt; in her other hand was a covered dish of apple pudding for Mrs Grey, who had been ill since Sunday. She was expected to return the book at the schoolhouse and then leave the pudding at Mrs Grey's cottage. Although the path between the two places was muddy, Alice had promised to finish both errands before dusk.
Give the two errands that Alice has promised to complete before dusk.
