At the dressmaker’s
An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.
The dressmaker asked Rose to stand on the wooden platform. She pinned the hem, adjusted the right sleeve and stepped back to examine the shoulders. Rose tried to turn towards the mirror, but the woman told her to remain still. A pin flashed between the dressmaker’s lips before she transferred it to the fabric. When the fitting ended, Rose’s mother wrote the collection date on the back of a visiting card.
Give two parts of the dress the dressmaker adjusts.
