The parcel room
An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.
The parcel had been left beneath the station bench. Nora found it while sweeping, noticed the address and carried it to the clerk. A red cord held the brown paper together. Along one edge, the paper had become wet and dark. The clerk copied the address into his book, then placed the parcel on the highest shelf, away from the leaking roof. Nora returned to the platform with her broom.
