An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.
At the station gate, Clara paused to adjust the basket on her arm. A folded shawl was tucked beneath its handle, and a small parcel, tied with string, lay inside. She looked along the platform for her brother, keeping one hand on the basket as the porters hurried past.
