Question 103

The displaced case

An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.

When Mr Alden unlocked the museum room, the tall windows were still fastened and the curtains hung exactly as he had left them. He crossed to the table where the glass case of coins stood. On the dusty surface, a clean rectangle showed several inches to the left of the case. He bent closer. One of the case's brass feet now rested beyond the chalk line he had drawn around it the previous evening.

Give two details which suggest that the glass case has been moved.
