Question 92

The apothecary's errand

An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.

Clara waited at the counter while Mr Vale finished tying a parcel for another customer and placed it on the shelf behind him. Beside him stood a small glass bottle containing Mrs Grey's remedy. He wrapped the bottle in brown paper and handed it to Clara. She placed it carefully in her basket before stepping out into the busy street.

Give the object Clara places in her basket.
