The walk from chapel
A newly written story set in the 1800s.
Ruth left the chapel as dusk settled over the fields. The lane to her uncle’s cottage was unlit, and the wind kept blowing her bonnet across her eyes. At the wooden footbridge, she found that one of the planks had broken away. She gripped the rail and stepped over the gap before continuing home.
Give one detail from the passage that makes Ruth’s walk home difficult.
