The disused mine
An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.
Daniel raised his brass lamp as he entered the lowest passage. No miner had worked there since the roof began to sink, and the rails had grown dull with mud. He had almost reached the timber supports when his light fell upon two objects between the rails: a snapped candle and a miner's cap. Daniel called to the men waiting behind him, but none would come any farther.
Give two objects Daniel finds between the rails.
