The empty cart
An original fiction passage set in the nineteenth century.
The cart returned without its usual sacks of flour. Mr Bell climbed down and told his daughter that the mill machinery had broken. He had waited until noon, then decided not to waste the rest of the day. Tomorrow he would visit the mill in the next town. For tonight, they would use the flour left in the storeroom and reduce the number of loaves placed in the shop window.
Give two changes Mr Bell plans because the mill has broken down.
