Why compression matters
Why compression matters
Digital files are stored as bits, and a byte is 8 bits. File size is the amount of storage a file needs, usually measured in B, KiB, or MiB, with 1 KiB=1024 B1 \, \text{KiB} = 1024 \, \text{B}1KiB=1024B and 1 MiB=1024 KiB1 \, \text{MiB} = 1024 \, \text{KiB}1MiB=1024KiB.
