The structure of an atom

The structure of an atom

An atom is the smallest part of an element that can exist. It has a tiny, dense nucleus at its centre, containing positive protons and neutral neutrons. The atomic radius, measured from the centre of the nucleus to the outer electron region, is approximately 1×10−10 m1 \times 10^{-10}\,\text{m}1×10−10m.
