Question 26

A student investigated the concentration of dissolved salt in a sample of lake water.

The student used the following method:

  1. Filter the lake water to remove suspended particles.
  2. Measure the mass of a clean, empty evaporating basin.
  3. Measure 25 cm325\text{ cm}^325 cm3 of the filtered lake water into the basin.
  4. Heat the basin to evaporate the water to dryness.
  5. Measure the mass of the evaporating basin and the dry salt.

The table below shows the results of the experiment:

Evaporating basin and dry salt42.3342.3342.33

Calculate the mass of salt dissolved in 1000 cm31000\text{ cm}^31000 cm3 of this lake water.
