3.1.2 Relative formula mass

What does relative atomic mass, ArA_rAr, compare an atom with?

A

For CO2\text{CO}_2CO2, using Ar(C)=12A_r(\text{C})=12Ar(C)=12 and Ar(O)=16A_r(\text{O})=16Ar(O)=16, Mr=12+(2×16)=M_r = 12 + (2 \times 16) = Mr=12+(2×16)=44.

B

Relative atomic mass, ArA_rAr, is a weighted mean mass compared with one twelfth of a carbon-12 atom.

C

One twelfth of the mass of a carbon-12 atom.

D

Mass is conserved.
