Inside an atom

Inside an atom

Atoms contain three types of subatomic particle: protons, neutrons and electrons. A subatomic particle is smaller than an atom and forms part of its structure.

Protons have a relative electrical charge of +1+1+1, neutrons have a relative electrical charge of 000, and electrons have a relative electrical charge of −1-1−1.
