Electron transfer in acid-metal reactions

Electron transfer in acid-metal reactions

Magnesium releases two electrons to form Mg²⁺; two H⁺ ions gain them and form H₂ When a metal reacts with an acid, metal atoms lose electrons and become positive metal ions. Hydrogen ions from the acid gain those electrons and form hydrogen molecules.
