What is the design mix?

What is the design mix?

Three overlapping circles labelled Function, Aesthetics and Cost, with Product in the central overlap

The design mix is the balance a business strikes between function, aesthetics and cost when it designs a product. These three elements are considered before mass production begins, because materials, shape and production methods are chosen at the design stage. Prototypes may be made and tested during the design process before the final product enters mass production.
