Card 1 of 20

Why is water uptake used as a measure of transpiration rate?

A

Water is lost faster than the roots can take it up, so cells lose pressure and the plant droops.

B

It removes the damp air layer outside the leaf and replaces it with drier air.

C

Over 99% of absorbed water is lost as vapour, so uptake closely measures transpiration.

D

In dry air, the concentration gradient of water vapour is steep.
