The nervous system

The nervous system detects changes in the environment and coordinates responses. Information travels rapidly as electrical impulses along specialised cells called neurones. A nerve is a bundle of nerve fibres, primarily axons from many neurones, surrounded by supporting connective tissue and supplied by blood vessels.
