Determine the probability that the child will be a girl with thalassemia major.

You should:

  • identify the genotypes of Person 4 and Person 7
  • draw a Punnett square diagram showing the possible offspring genotypes
  • identify the phenotype of each offspring genotype
  • calculate the final probability using the symbols:
    • βA\beta^AβA = normal beta-globin allele
    • βT\beta^TβT = mutated beta-globin (thalassemia) allele
