DNA Packed into Chromosomes

In eukaryotic cells, the nucleus contains thread-like structures called chromosomes. A chromosome is one very long molecule of DNA, tightly coiled so it fits inside the nucleus. Before a cell divides, this DNA is copied. The replicated chromosome then consists of two sister chromatids, each containing one DNA molecule.
