This is the student's method.

  1. Cut ten pieces of stem, each 5 cm long, from the same plant.
  2. Place five of the pieces in dish A, which contains growth jelly with plant hormone in it.
  3. Place the other five pieces in dish B, which contains growth jelly with no plant hormone.
  4. Leave both dishes in the same warm, dark cupboard for 14 days.
  5. Count how many pieces of stem in each dish have grown roots.
