Some students investigated the size of a population of orchid plants in an L-shaped field.

The diagram below shows the dimensions of the field:

An L-shaped field. The leftmost vertical boundary is 200 m. The top-most horizontal boundary is 150 m. From the right end of the top boundary, the edge goes down vertically, then turns right horizontally for 100 m, and finally goes down vertically for 120 m to reach the bottom boundary. This forms a larger left rectangular section of 150 m by 200 m, and a smaller right rectangular section of 100 m by 120 m. Woodland is shown along the bottom edge of the field.

The students:

  • Placed a 1 m×1 m1\text{ m} \times 1\text{ m}1 m×1 m square quadrat at 10 random positions in the field.
  • Counted the number of orchid plants in each quadrat.

The results are shown in the table below:
