After the Second World War, Britain needed workers in transport, textiles, steel, catering and the NHS. From the 1950s onwards, many Muslims migrated to the UK, especially from Pakistan, Bangladesh and India, with later arrivals from East Africa, the Middle East, the Balkans and Africa.
