From series voltage sharing to a potential divider

From series voltage sharing to a potential divider

Potential divider circuit with supply Vs, series resistors R1 and R2, and output voltage Vout measured across the lower resistor

A potential divider is a series circuit that produces an output voltage which is a fraction of the supply voltage. Because the resistors are in series, the same current flows through both, so the larger resistance gets the larger share of the voltage.
