Momentum and isolated systems

Collision diagram showing a 0.50 kg trolley moving right at 1.20 m/s toward a stationary 0.30 kg trolley, then both stuck together moving right at 0.75 m/s Momentum is the quantity of motion carried by a moving object, defined by p=mvp = mvp=mv. Because velocity has direction, momentum is a vector, so choosing right as positive makes leftward momentum negative.
