The Mughal Empire was a Muslim, Persianate dynasty that grew from a Central Asian invasion into a powerful Indian empire. A useful pattern is foundation under Babur, consolidation under Akbar, high imperial culture under Jahangir and Shah Jahan, and overextension from Aurangzeb to Nadir Shah.
