In a follow-up study by Rosenhan (1973), staff at a teaching and research psychiatric hospital were warned that one or more pseudo-patients would attempt to gain admission over the next three months. Of the 193 genuine patients admitted during this period, 41 were confidently judged by at least one staff member to be pseudo-patients, and 23 were suspected by at least one psychiatrist, even though no pseudo-patients were actually sent.
