Preschool Playground Interaction
How do young children negotiate sharing popular outdoor play equipment, such as tricycles and climbing frames, during recess? Some children appear to cooperate easily, taking turns and negotiating rules verbally. Others exhibit conflict, shouting, hoarding toys, or physically pulling equipment away from peers. Psychologists want to use a naturalistic, non-participant observation to investigate these social dynamics and identify which peer interaction strategies are most prevalent in this environment.
