Many individuals express deep concern about climate change, yet there is a significant gap between their stated eco-anxiety and their actual daily purchasing habits. Why do some consumers feel immense guilt when purchasing single-use plastics, while others feel completely disconnected? Does the presence of eco-labeling on packaging, or perhaps the social pressure of shopping with friends, alter their emotional decision-making? To investigate these underlying cognitive and emotional triggers, environmental psychologists want to use the self-report method to explore consumers' immediate feelings and decision-making processes while shopping.
