Many individuals spend hours researching minor physical symptoms online, often escalating their anxiety—a phenomenon known as 'cyberchondria'. Yet, despite its prevalence, we know very little about its long-term psychological effects. Why do some individuals compulsively search for diseases more than others? Does it trigger severe health anxiety, or does it serve as a short-term coping mechanism that backfires? Does searching symptoms late at night affect physiological arousal before sleep? There is clearly much we do not know. To investigate further, researchers want to use a self-report method to understand cyberchondria.
