An environmental psychologist investigated whether the spatial layout of furniture in a public library co-working area affects self-reported feelings of social belonging. They used a repeated measures design experiment where participants spent 2 hours studying under two different conditions:
First, participants completed their study session in Condition X. A week later, the same participants completed their session in Condition Y. On each occasion, participants rated their perceived level of social belonging and inclusion in the space on a scale of 1 ('extremely isolated') to 12 ('extremely connected').
